Lesson 14~Jesus cleanse the temple

John 2:13-17;Mat. 21:12; Mark 11:15

Jesus went into the temple and saw that money changers and sellers of animals for sacrifice had been set up in the outer courts. The outer courts is the only place in the temple where non-jewish people could come to pray to God. This made Jesus mad, that is why he said, "Is it not written, My house shall be called of ALL NATIONS the house of prayer? but ye have made it a den of thieves' (Mark 11:17).

Let me explain a thing or two to help you better understand why Jesus was so mad. First off, People came to the temple with animals to sacrifice to God, but the temple would tell them that what they brought was not good enough, so they would make them buy animals that the temple provided. Then when they went to buy the animals they would not accept their money, but make them do an exchange of their money for temple money. Second, there were different parts to the temple. There was the holy of holy where a priest went once a year, there was the holy place where the priests went more often to offer up the peoples sacrifices for their sins. There was the area that jewish men were allowed to go, and a different area that they Jewish women went. Then there was the outer court, which is where those who were non-jewish could go to pray to God. This outer court is where the money changers and sellers of animals had set up their tables. That means that the leaders of the temple has standing in the way of non-jewish people going into the temple and praying to God. And that made Jesus Very angry.

Jesus was so angry that he made a whip and drove them and the animals out of the temple with it, while turning the tables of the money changers over. For to him, they had turned a place that was meant for prayer to the real God into a place where money was being made god.

Lesson 13~ Jesus' first miracle

John 2:1-11

Two days later, Jesus, his Mother, Mary and his followers went to a wedding in Cana of Galilee. While they were there, the wedding ran out of wine, as a wedding reception lasted for days. It was a disgrace to run out of wine at a wedding. So,  Jesus' Mother Mary went to him and told him of this for I believe she knew that he understood that he had the ablitity to do something about it. Jesus told her that it was not yet time for him to start doing miracles publicy. Mary did not argue with Jesus, instead she went to the servants and told them to do whatever Jesus told them to do and left.

The room they were in had 6 stone water jars that could hold around 30 gallons. Jesus told the servants to fill the jars up with water and take it to the man who put the wedding together. And they did.

When the man had tasted the water  that had turned into wine, he was glad. For the Wine was the best wine that had been served for the whole wedding!

This was the first miracle that Jesus did. His followers saw it, believed in Jesus and followed him.
