Lesson 13~ Isaac & Rebekah, a great love story

Genesis 24

After Abraham's wife, Sarah died & was buried, Abraham decided that it was time for his promised son, Isaac get married. So he sent out his oldest servant to go to the land of his birth to find a family member for his son to marry. The servant was a man of faith who prayed to God to send the right lady to him at the well. He asked God to have the right lady be willing to give him & his camels water.  That is when Rebekah came to the well to get some water for her family. The servant Asked her for water to drink & Rebekah gave him water & watered his camels as well. The servant asked her who her father was. As it turned out she WAS the daughter of Abraham's brother, Bethuel! He knew then that she was the one for Isaac. He gave earrings and bracelets of engagement to her & asked to go speak with her mother's house and told the family. Her brother, Laban ran to the well to welcome the servant to their home. The servant went with Laban to the home.

At Rebekah's family's home, the servant told them that he had been sent to find a wife for his master, Abraham's son Isaac within his family. Rebekah and her family agreed to the marriage, and she went with the servant back to his master's home.

When Rebekah and the servant came near one of Abraham's fields where Isaac was, Rebekah saw him and asked the servant who he was. The servant told her that that was the man she was to marry. When we heard this she covered herself with a vail, then jumped off of the camel and ran to Isaac. When the servant caught up with them, he told Isaac everything that had happened then gave Rebekah to Isaac to be his wife.

Isaac married Rebekah. He loved Rebekah very much.  Being married to Rebekah helped him get over his grief of his Mother, Sarah. They later had two sons that we will hear about in the next lesson.  They remained married until his death as an old man.

This truly was a great love story!

Lesson 12~ Abram the man whose faith made him the Father of God's chosen people and gave him a new name

Genesis 11:26-24:67

Abram was the son of Terah (Gen. 11:26) who is of the lineage of Shem the son of Noah (Gen. 10:11-26). Abram showed that he had great faith in God after his father, Terah died. Let's look at that.

After Terah died, God went to Abram and told him to leave the his father's land to travel to an unknown land in which he did not know (Gen. 12:1). Back then people didn't leave their father's land for that was their inheritance. But Abram had enough faith in God to leave a secure way of life to launch into an unknown future.

God also promised Abram that he would make a great nation out of him in this new country (Gen. 12:2). It took faith to believe that since he and his wife Sarai  had no children & were past child bearing ages. But believe God he did! So he left his home land with a house and land to become a wanderer in a land that he did not know and live in tents. Abram had to hold on to the promises that God gave him of a son for about thirty years until God fulfilled it (Gen. 12:4; 21:5). Now that takes faith! To prove to Abram that he would keep that promise, God changed his name to Abraham which means father of a multitude. Which he did become. Not only to twelve tribes of Jewish people but also to twelve tribes of non-Jewish people through Ishmael.

God was so pleased with Abraham's faith that he even had him put in the great cloud of witnesses in Hebrew 11.

Lesson 11~ Why and how we came top speak in different languages

There was a time on the earth when all the people on the earth spoke the same language. That would have been fine except that they decided to disobey God who told them, "Have many children. Grow in number and fill the earth" (Gen. 9:1). But the people decided that they wanted to stay together and not go out into the earth & fill it. Instead they all moved to the land of Babylonia where they made bricks & built a city and a tower.

After they built this city & tower, God came down to look at them. God was not happy with the fact that they had disobeyed him, so he made them all speak in different languages. This is why that areal is called Babel. When they could not understand each other they got together with those they could understand, & moved out into the different areas of the world.

And that is why and how we got different languages in the world! If you want to read this for yourself, you can find it In Genesis 11:1-9.

Lesson 10- The sons of Noah in which all of mankind repopulated the earth through

Genesis 10

After Noah, his wife,  their sons & their wives came off of the ark, they obeyed God and had children, and their children had children and so forth. Japheth's family went to live in the isles where the gentiles all came from.  Ham's family when on to build Babel, Nineveh & even to Gaza, Sodom & Gomorrah in the land of Caannites. Shem's family lived from Meshi unto Mt. Sephar to the east. These are the ones in which God's people and Jesus came from (Gen. 9:18-32; Luke 3:36).

All mankind came from Noah and his sons. So you see, we are all related through Noah and his wife. In other words, if they had not obeyed God, we would not be here today.
