Lesson 12- Jesus calls his first followers

John 1:35-51

The day after John gave his testimony of Jesus, John was with 2 of his disciples. When John saw Jesus he said to them "Look, the Lamb of God!"

When the his followers heard this they left John and followed Jesus. Jesus turned and asked them, "What do you want?"

They asked him where he was staying. Jesus invited them to come with him to see & they did.

Andrew then went and told his brother, Simon Peter about Jesus being the Christ. Then he took him to see Jesus. When Jesus saw Simon he told him who he was and that he would rename him, 'Peter'. then he told Simon to follow him and he did.

The next day, Jesus went to Galilee and called Phillip to follow him, and he did. Then he went and told Nathanael that he had found the Messiah, and that it was Jesus of Nazareth. Nathanael said, "Can anything good come from Nazareth?" Phillip told him," come and see." And he did.

As Nathanael came close to Jesus, Jesus said, Here is trully a peraon of Israel. There is nothing false about him." Nathanel asks him how he knew that? Jesus told him that he had seen him under the fig tree before Phillip came to him. When Nathanael belived that Jesus was the son of God, and followed him.

Lesson 11~ The Testimony of John the Baptist

The testimony of John the Baptist
-------------------------------------------
John 2:19-37

The Jewish people wondered who John the Baptist was. Some thought that he was Ellijah, others thought that he was the Christ, or a prophet, but no one was sure. So they sent some priest and levites to ask him who he was. John told him that he was not any of these, but that he was calling to people to prepare for the Christ.

Then they ask him why he was bsptising people if he wasn't any of these above. He told them that he was only baptising them with water, but the Christ who stands with you in the crowd will baptise you with the Holy Spirit. Then he went on to tell them that he, John was to low to be good enough to even ties the Christ's shoes.

The next day, John saw Jesus walking towards him, and proclaimed to all who stood around, "Look, the Lamb of God, He takes away the sins of the World!" Then John went on and explained what had happened when he had baptised Jesus. Then he told them all, 'He is the Son of God."

With that pronoucement John had fulfilled his job of pointing people to Jesus. John even had some of his followers leave him and start following Jesus.

Lesson 10- Satan tries to get Jesus to worship him instead of God

Satan tries to get Jesus to worship him instead of God
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Mat 4:1-11; Mark 1:12-13; Luke 1-13

After Jesus was baptised, the Holy Spirit led him into the wilderness so that Satan could tempt him. This was important, because in being tempted as we all are, Jesus can now understand what we are tempted by, and show us that we too can over come them with His help. Let us look at how that went, shall we?

After Jesus had been in the wilderness fasting for 40 days, he was hungry. That is when Satan came to Jesus and said, "If you are the song of God, tell these stones to turn into bread, so that you can eat them." Jesus answered Satan, "It is in the Bible, 'A person does not live only by eating bread. But a person lives by everything that the Lord says.'"

Then the devil took Jesus to the very tip of the Holy temple in Jerusalem and said, "If you are the Son of God, up off of here. You won't get hurt, for the Bible says, 'He puts his angels in charge of you. They will catch you with their hands. And you will not hit your foot on a rock." Here the devil was quoting from Psalms 91:11-12, thinking that it would fool Jesus. But it did not fool Jesus, for he answered the devil by quoting Deuteronomy 6:16 which says,'Do not test the Lord your God."

Lastly, the devil took Jesus up on a very high mountain where you could see all the kingdoms of the world and said, "If you will bow down and worship me, In will give you all these things." Jesus answered him, "Go away from me, Satan! It is written in the Scriptures, 'You must worship the Lord your God, and serve only Him!"

When Satan heard that, he left Jesus defeated, for he had not been able to get Jesus to sin. You too can use the words from the Bible to win over the Satan when he tries to get you to do things against God and sin.
