lesson 3~ what is sin?

The next part of the story of the first man and woman is how they brought sin into the earth. But before we look at the next part of the story of the first man & woman on earth, we need to understand what sin is. So that is what we will learn about today.

Sin is when we disobey God. How do we know what God wants us to do? Well, God gave the ten commandments to his people, the Israelites. The commandments are like the rules that your Mom and Dad may have at home that tells you what they want you to do or not do. We can read God's rules or commandments in Exodus, chapter 20, verses 1-7. You  can read them in your Bible, but I am going to give you a short version of what it says.

1. Don't worship any other gods, but Me.

2. Don't have any pictures, statues or anything else of any other god.

3. Do not bow down to any other gods, but Me.

4. Do not use God's name as a curse word.

5. Keep the Sabbath (Sunday) holy by not working, instead think about God & His Word (the Bible).

.6. Honor your Father and Mother.

7. Do not murder people or wish that they were dead.

8. Be faithful to your husband or wife.

9. Do not steal.

10. Do not look at some else's things and want them.

The first 5 rules or commandments tell us how to treat God, the last 5 rules tell how to treat each other. Now, when we do not obey these rules or commandments, we are sinning. Sin is like a black spot on our minds & souls.

Next week, we will look at how sin got onto the earth.Until then obey the rules.

lesson 2~ God molds his crowning creation~ man

"...God created human beings in his image. In the image of God he created them. He created them male and female" (Gen. 1:27 ICB).

God saw that the world was good, and he was pleased with what he had made. But he had no one to enjoy it with. Nor did he have anyone to help him take care of this beautiful world that he had just made. So he decided to make someone who wasn't like any thing else he had created on the earth yet. God took some soil from the earth and lovingly formed a man, much like you would make something using clay. Then God breathed into the nose of the man giving him a soul & bringing him to life. You see, man is the only thing on earth that has a soul. No other thing on earth has a soul. That is what makes us different than all of the other animals on the earth, and that is what makes us most like God.

God made special garden to be the man's home. Then God put the man in the garden. God had all the animals march in front of the man, so that the man who name them. That was the man's first duty in ruling over & caring for the new world.

God and the man were enjoying spending time with each other like this. But God realized that all the plants & animals had other plants & animals on the earth like them. But that the man had no one on the earth like him to keep him company & help him take care of the world. So God made the man go into a deep sleep. Then God operated on the man taking a rib out on him. With that rib, God formed a female human.

When the man woke up, God took the female human to him. The man was pleased and called her, "woman", because she had been made from his rib.  That is how the first married couple came to be on earth. God told them to also have babies, so that they could help rule over & care for the world.

Now the man had someone to keep him company & help him with his duties. And God had both the man & woman to spend time with. So every night after work was done, God would come to the garden to walk with them & talk (Gen.3:8).

So you see, God made mankind to be friends with him & help him to take care of the world. God still wants mankind to do that today, even you! One way you can get to know God is by reading this book, called, 'The Holy Bible'. Why don't you do that! you can start by reading about what I just told you about in The holy Bible in the first book of it called Genesis. This story can be found in the first three chapters of that book.

Until next week, have fun reading about God's crowning creation in The Holy Bible!

Lesson 1~In the beginning God....created...

"In the beginning God..." (Gen. 1:1).

Let us first look at the fact that God was here before there was the sun, or stars, or even the world! That is hard to imagine, isn't it? In John 1:1-2, it tells us that God was here long before time and before anything we can see today.

Next,  we see that God wanted to create something. So he looked at a ball of dark water and made a plan((Gen. 1:2).  Once he has a plan in his head he started to create or make what was in his plan. But God is not like us. We make things using our bodies. But God has powers to create without his hands. Yes, God is so powerful that all he had to do was say what he wanted to happen and it happened!

God said, "let there be light." And there was light where dark ball of water use to be. Then he divided the light from the darkness. He called the light, "day" and the darkness he called,"night". God did this so that there would be time. Up until he made day & night, there had been no time. That is when the earth had it's first day and time began. Then the first day ended.

Then the next day came. God said, "let the waters divide". Some of the water went into the air & some went below. The water in the air he called, "sky". That is why there are clouds in the sky. Clouds have water in them. Then the second day ended.

The next day after that, God said, "Let the waters part and dry land raise up." And it happened. He called the dry land, "earth" & the waters he called, "seas". God thought that it was good. Then God said, "Let the earth have plants. And trees, grass and all kinds of plants came out of the earth. God thought it was good. This was the end of the third day.

The next morning after that, God said, let there be lights in the sky to shine in the day & the night. He put a big bright light in the sky for the day. And a smaller duller light in the sky, then made the stars to light the night. This is when the earth started having days, months, and seasons. God thought that it was good. That was what happened on the forth day.

On the fifth day,  God said, "let the waters full of living animals. In the sky he put birds to fly in it. In the oceans & seas he put animals there to  swim like fish, and whales. Then he blessed them & told them to have babies, so that they would fill the whole earth with them. That is what happened on the fifth day.

On the sixth day, God said, Let there be animals, and bugs of every size and type to cover the earth." And it happened! Then he told them to make babies, too, so that they would cover all of the earth. But that was not all that God did on the sixth day! Visit me next week to read about the only thing that he touched when he created the earth.

Until then when you look at the sun & moon, and all the plants & animals around you. Remember God created it.

May God bless you until we have another Bible hour.
