Lesson 17~ Esau's marriage to foreign women bring sorrow to Isaac and Rebekah

Genesis 26:34-35

When Esau was forty years old, he married a couple of foreign women who were Hittites. Their names were Judith, and Basemath. These women brought much sorrow to Isaac and Rebekah(Gen. 26:34-35). The Bible isn't clear as to how or why, but I believe it is because they served different gods, such as Wurusemu - the son goddess, Taru-god of storm, Telipinu- the god of vegetation, and several mountain gods. That would go against Isaac and Rebekah belief in the one true God. Also it is important to note that when you lived in a city or area back then, you had to follow and worship the god of that area. This is why God warned his people not to marry them, for this would pull them from worshiping other gods (Ex.20:3).
