Lesson 16~ God takes care of Isaac during a famine and reassures Isaac that he will keep the promise given to Abraham
Genesis 26 & 27
There was a famine in the land where Isaac was living. He thought about going to Egypt, but God told him not to go there, but to go to the land of Gerer. Isaac was sure so, God promised Isaac that if he obeyed, God would keep the promise that was made with Abraham (Gen. 26:1-6).Isaac obeyed God and went to live in the land (Gen. 26:1-6).
While living in there Isaac rebuilt many wells that his father had dug, and they flowed with water. With the wells they were able to grow a lot of crops which helped him become quite wealthy. This shows how God blessed Isaac, his family and all who were with him. But those who lived around him was jealous of his success.
Because of Isaac's success, they asked Issac to leave their area.Isaac moved to the valley of Gerer. His neighbors kept giving him a hard time, so he kept moving. Everywhere he moved, he dug new wells and named them. Finally, he moved to Sheersheba where he found a place of peace.
God again repeated his promise that he had given to Abraham to Isaac. This was the promise to give Isaac and his people that they would be a blessing to those on the earth. Isaac built an altar to God there.
