Lesson 9- John baptises Jesus

One day while John the Baptist was preaching and baptising people, Jesus came to John asking John to baptise him. At first,  John didn't want to do it.  Because John knew that Jesus was the Christ that he was preaching about.  But Jesus told John that John must baptise Jesus in obedience to God as as an example to all who followed him. So John did so.

As Jesus was coming out of the water, the sky opened and the Holy Spirit came down looking like a dove. The dove landed on Jesus. And a voice came from heaven saying, "This is my son and I love him. I am very pleased with him" (Mat. 3:17). This is what most Jewish Father's say when their son is 12 years old. God the Father had to wait until Jesus was a man of about 30 years of age to say this. It is believed that Jospeh is dead by this time as we hear nothing of him from the time he is 12 years of age. So now Jesus as an adult, was free to follow His heavenly Father's will.

John saw and heard this and would tell others of it later (John 1:19-36). I beleive that when John points Jesus out it is the beganning of Jesus' ministry.
